Our US portfolio
With activities primarily in the southwestern US, our Tucson-based team is focussed on resources the world needs to sustainably develop and decarbonize, including copper and nickel. In the US, our current portfolio includes interests in copper exploration projects aligned to BHP’s future-facing commodity strategy.
Resolution Copper is one of the largest undeveloped copper projects in the world and has the potential to become the largest copper producer in North America. It is located in the Copper triangle, 60 miles east of Phoenix, Arizona. Resolution Copper is operated by Rio Tinto and BHP has a 45 per cent interest.
Our portfolio in the US includes closed sites under remediation or closure management in Arizona, California, New Mexico and Utah and corporate offices in Tucson and Washington D.C.
